It is with great sadness that the pilgrimage town of Kevelaer bids farewell to Ellen Borman, who passed away on July 18. Through her dedicated work, she had a lasting impact on community life in Kevelaer and left an indelible mark.
Ellen Borman was an active member of the Senior Citizens’ Advisory Council of the pilgrimage town of Kevelaer for 18 years. From 2017 to 2021, she served as chair of the Senior Citizens’ Advisory Council. During her tenure, she had a significant impact on the council’s work and was particularly committed to addressing social issues in the town. Improving the living conditions of older adults was a special priority for her.
Ellen Borman also served as a volunteer mediator for three decades, including nearly 20 years for the Kevelaer-West district. With great dedication, she helped reach settlements in countless mediation cases. She also devoted herself wholeheartedly to helping others through her work with the telephone counseling service and the VdK social welfare organization.
In recognition of her service, she was awarded the Volunteer Service Pin of the pilgrimage town of Kevelaer in 2012 and the Cross of Merit on Ribbon of the Federal Republic of Germany in 2016.
With the passing of Ellen Borman, we have lost a special person and a cherished colleague who impressed us with her expertise, but above all with her great humanity, warmth, and openness. We will miss her hands-on approach, her ideas, and her advice. We will remember her with gratitude and extend our deepest condolences to her family.
