Kleve District Honors Exemplary climate protection projects

The Kleve District is presenting its Climate Protection Award for the fourth time. The award is intended for dedicated citizens whose projects are dedicated to climate and environmental protection. The Kleve District Climate Working Group awards the prize to exemplary projects that creatively put climate protection into practice in their immediate surroundings. “We’re looking for project ideas that showcase how the residents of the Kleve District are getting creative to recycle waste, save energy, operate in an eco-friendly and efficient manner, or conserve valuable resources in other ways. It is important that these are projects with appeal and broad impact—ones worth emulating,” says District Administrator Christoph Gerwers.

Those interested can now apply online for the 2027 Climate Protection Award on the Kleve District website: www.kreis-kleve.de/klimaschutzpreis.

Individuals and groups—such as clubs, neighborhoods, as well as school classes and daycare centers—are eligible to participate. Those under 18 may also participate, represented by their legal guardians. Entries will be evaluated by a panel of experts from the Kleve District Administration. The District Council will then select the winners. It’s worth participating: The five best projects will each receive a cash prize of 1,000 euros.

Applicants may submit climate protection projects that are either already in place or in the concrete planning stages. The project will be evaluated based on its creativity and scope, as well as its future potential for climate protection. The following points are relevant for the award when submitting a brief project description along with two to three photos:

  • How does the project contribute to climate and environmental protection in the Kleve district?
  • How is the project organized and implemented?
  • Who is the project intended to reach?
  • What will the project look like in the future?

Entries will be accepted through November 22, 2026. Following that, the selection process will take place, and the winners will be honored.
