A selfie of magnificent roses

Beaming faces at Kevelaer Comprehensive School: Roses were presented to pupils as part of a prize draw at the training fair. The initiative by Agrobusiness Niederrhein was held under the motto "Get in touch with the green sector".

Agrobusiness Niederrhein presented itself at the trade fair together with the horticultural company Dieter Boland and the Landesverband Gartenbau NRW. The aim was to get young people interested in the diverse professions in the green sector and actively engage them in conversation.

The task for the participants: take a selfie with an exhibitor and a green heart, send the picture to Agrobusiness Niederrhein and include the name, contact person and number of employees in the respective company. The three best entries have now been awarded prizes.

The school management was also enthusiastic: Martina Boudewins, Head of Teaching, and Christoph Feldmann, Head of School, praised the successful campaign, which brings career guidance to life in a creative way.

Thorsten Stern from the Kevelaer Youth Employment Agency, organizer of the training fair, drew a positive conclusion: "This year's motto was 'Experience training'. More than 50 exhibitors presented a wide range of career options and opportunities for the future."

Marcus Trappe, coordinator of the Interreg project "Agropole Innovates", sees this as an important impulse: "We want to arouse interest in green professions and give young people practical insights. Special thanks go to the horticultural test center of the NRW Chamber of Agriculture in Straelen - that's where these beautiful roses come from."

The competition went down very well with the pupils. "We love roses," say Anna Büren and Alicia Schubarth. Both became curious as a result of the fair: "We were even offered vacation jobs in a nursery," reports Anna Büren.

This is also the reason for the next step: "A look over our shoulders at the cultivation of ornamental plants is already being planned," says Trappe.

Thorsten Stern also sees this as the right approach: "Mission accomplished - experiencing professions becomes tangible here. We actively support young people in preparing for their professional lives with such activities and company tours."
