Climate Adaptation Week | September 14–20, 2026
Climate Adaptation Week will take place throughout Germany from September 14 to 20. The pilgrimage town of Kevelaer is participating again this year with various activities and events focused on climate adaptation, urban green spaces, and creating a livable city.
One event on offer is the city tour “A Closer Look at the City’s Tree Diversity,” on Tuesday, September 15, 2026. Together with Sébastien Belleil, the environmental protection officer for the pilgrimage town of Kevelaer, interested participants can discover the city’s diverse tree life. The tour will cover, among other things, the various tree species in Kevelaer, their unique characteristics, and their importance for the urban climate and biodiversity. Opportunities to get involved in caring for the city’s trees will also be discussed.
The tour, which lasts about 45 minutes, begins at 5:00 p.m. at Peter-Plümpe-Platz, near the town hall entrance. Participation is free, and registration is not required.
Another highlight of the week is the joint “Park(ing) Day” organized by the pilgrimage town of Kevelaer and the city of Kleve on Friday, September 18, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Luxemburger Platz. Together with the Mechel-Haus of the Caritas Association Geldern-Kevelaer e. V., Permakultur-Niederrhein e. V., and the Climate School of the cooldown°earth foundation, parking spaces and the surrounding area will be transformed into a gathering place for people and urban nature.
We warmly invite you to stop by, join in, and linger—for example, at the climate quiz, on the energy bike where you can generate electricity by pedaling, while playing games, reading, playing the guitar, or enjoying coffee and cake in exchange for a donation.
Climate Weeks in the Kleve District | November 9–15, 2026
Two months later, the Kleve District Climate Weeks will take place.
Once again, the pilgrimage town of Kevelaer is actively participating. On Tuesday, November 10, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., our Christmas decoration swap event will take place for the second time at the Caritas Mechel-Haus. Bring along any Christmas decorations you no longer use, swap them for others, or just stop by for a cup of coffee—everyone is welcome.
We're looking for: Hosts and their event ideas
We are also looking for hosts for a heat pump party during Climate Weeks. If you own a heat pump and would like to show other residents how it works and how it’s installed, and share your experiences, we’d be happy to organize a heat pump party at your home, with expert guidance from the NRW Consumer Advice Center.
In addition, we invite you to organize your own themed events as part of “Climate Adaptation Week” or the Climate Weeks in the Kleve district. Please contact us well in advance so that we can list your event on the official website. This will help us raise awareness of your event and, together, showcase what our city has to offer in terms of climate adaptation and climate protection.
