As of August 1, 2026, everything will initially remain unchanged in terms of parental contributions. We will continue to apply the existing sibling regulation for the time being. Originally, it was planned to abolish the reduction as part of the budget protection concept. However, following intensive feedback from politicians and parents, we have postponed this step for the time being. On April 23, the Main and Finance Committee will discuss postponing the decision until the next consultation cycle.
What does this mean in concrete terms?
There is currently no short-term additional burden for families. The current regulations will continue to apply until the end of the year. At the same time, we are working on a new proposal for the parental contribution statutes. Our aim is to find a solution that continues to support families with several children and at the same time takes into account the city's financial capacity.
What is currently being examined
We are looking at various approaches, for example:
- a more graduated scale according to income
- as well as targeted relief for siblings
Voices from the town hall
Mayor Dr. Dominik Pichler emphasizes: "It is important to us to take the concerns of parents seriously and at the same time to deal responsibly with the city's financial resources. The upcoming consultations will give us the chance to develop a balanced and sustainable solution. A final decision will be made by the council."
What happens next
Further consultations are scheduled for June and July. The Council could make a decision on July 16. A new regulation - if adopted - would apply from January 1, 2027.
Until then, everything will remain the same for parents.
