When the temperatures drop, it's time for Stadtwerke Kevelaer to prepare its two public drinking water fountains for the cold season. From November 3, the systems at Kapellenplatz and Solegarten St. Jakob will be switched off and winterized. In this way, the municipal utilities reliably prevent frost damage to pipes and fittings.
"The drinking fountains are a popular attraction in the summer months - both for Kevelaer residents and for the many visitors to our town," explains Dirk Verhoeven, pipe network manager at Stadtwerke Kevelaer. "To ensure that they can be used again next spring in perfect condition, we take them out of service in good time before winter and protect the technology from frost."
During the warmer months, the robust granite columns with stainless steel elements supply fresh drinking water directly from the Stadtwerke Kevelaer network - at the touch of a button, free of charge and hygienically safe.
However, citizens do not have to do without fresh water during a stroll through town or a walk in winter: Stadtwerke Kevelaer's refill station remains accessible. Anyone can fill up their own drinking bottle with Kevelaer drinking water free of charge in the water tower. This means that even in the cold season, you can be environmentally conscious and avoid single-use plastic.
