For three weeks, everything in the Kleve district revolved around the theme “Reaching Your Destination on Two Wheels—Climate Protection in the Kleve District.” This year’s STADTRADELN campaign encouraged 8,100 residents throughout the district to hop on their bikes and leave their cars at home a little more often. Now that all the kilometers cycled have been tallied, the official results are in.
This coming Sunday, July 5, 2026, the official awards ceremony will take place as part of the Cycling Experience Day at the Solegarten St. Jakob. Starting at 4:00 p.m., Mayor Dr. Dominik Pichler will honor the most successful cyclists and the most active teams for their achievements.
In the pilgrimage town of Kevelaer, the commitment to the environment was immense: 571 active cyclists in 43 teams covered more than 125,000 kilometers in approximately 11,500 trips, thereby saving 21 metric tons of CO₂. With this result, Kevelaer has once again surpassed last year’s performance and ranks fifth in the district-wide comparison, directly behind the municipalities of Kleve, Geldern, Goch, and Rees, and just ahead of the city of Emmerich.
