Regular maintenance and the regular replacement of electronic and mechanical components are essential for the safe operation of the waterworks. For example, a submersible pump in a well at the Kevelaer municipal works has now been replaced following a defect. The affected pump normally pumps raw water to the waterworks for further treatment.
The outage had no impact on the drinking water supply: A total of five wells are available for pumping, of which only three are generally used at the same time.
"We plan ahead and build our infrastructure in such a way that the supply is secured at all times, even in the event of technical failures - especially during peak consumption in summer or when individual wells break down at short notice," emphasizes Anna-Christina Walter, Technical Manager at Stadtwerke Kevelaer. Operations are now running reliably and smoothly again.
