New regulations for logging on, off and

Reregistering your electricity contract

From June 6, 2025, customers will have greater clarity when switching suppliers. On this date, new regulations on switching suppliers will come into force for electricity suppliers. These are intended to ensure that the technical requirements for switching suppliers are met within 24 hours. On this page you will find information about all

Important to know: The new supplier change regulations have no influence on the agreed terms and termination regulations of your contract.

What to do when registering and deregistering with the

energy suppliers?

From June 6, 2025, new legal rules will apply for registering and deregistering with your electricity supplier. Registration and deregistration will only be possible in the future .

This means that if you are planning to move out or relocate, you must register or terminate the contract with the energy supplier in advance. Retroactive registration or termination is no longer possible from June 6, 2025. You must observe the following deadlines:

  • You can cancel your registration for the following working day.
  • You can register for the working day after next.

Why is retroactive deregistration no longer possible?

The new regulations of the Federal Network Agency no longer allow you to deregister retroactively. If you know that you will be moving house or moving out, you must inform us in good time before you move.

What happens if I do not deregister in time?

If you do not report the move-out or termination in good time, you must continue to pay until the day of the final termination. As a result, you may be billed for the energy consumption of your new tenant.

What happens if I don't register in time?

If you do not register in time,

  • you are supplied by the basic supplier (E.ON). The prices of the basic supply are high, so we recommend switching to a cheaper tariff. You can switch at any time.
  • your consumption will be billed to your previous tenant, landlord or owner. Therefore: Please register in good time to avoid disputes with your landlord or owner.

What is the market location identification number (MaLo-ID)?

From June 6, 2025, you will need the MaLo-ID for every registration, de-registration or re-registration of your energy supply contract.

As you know, your electricity consumption is measured by an electricity meter. Each electricity meter has its own meter number. This only changes when the meter is changed.

Each meter is assigned to a consumption point in a building, for example an apartment. This property-related assignment is made via a unique identification number and is referred to as a "market location".

The MaLo-ID or market location ID, short for market location identification number, is an eleven-digit number that uniquely identifies each market location in the German energy market. It was introduced by the Federal Network Agency in February 2018 to simplify communication between energy suppliers, grid operators and customers and will be mandatory from June 6, 2025.

The MaLo ID is similar to an IBAN, which can only be assigned to one bank account.

You will find the MaLo ID on every electricity bill. It consists of 11 digits and is permanently linked to the electricity meter at your current place of residence. If you move house, you will receive the MaLo-ID of your new meter at your new address.

Who will provide me with the new MaLo ID?

You will receive the MaLo ID of your new address either from your previous tenant or landlord or your network operator.
