Easter is just around the corner and traditional Easter bonfires are an integral part of this. Easter bonfires may be held in Kevelaer over the Easter period (April 4 to 6, 2026). To ensure that the traditional bonfires take place safely and in accordance with the rules, we ask the organizers to observe a few instructions.
What is a traditional bonfire?
Customary bonfires serve to maintain local traditions. Organizers can be: a religious community anchored in the local community, an organization, an association or even a private household. As a public event, the bonfire must be accessible to everyone.
Obligation to report / notification
Customary bonfires must be reported to the local regulatory authority at least 10 days before they are held. For this year's Easter celebrations, the notification should therefore be submitted by today at the latest so that the necessary checks and coordination can take place. Prior notification is mandatory.
Checks by the fire department
The fire department will carry out random checks at Easter bonfires to ensure compliance with regulations and safety on site. Please support the emergency services by cooperating with them.
