We are continuing to invest in sustainable and climate-friendly mobility. We are significantly expanding our existing Bike+Ride facility at the station: 210 additional bicycle parking spaces are being created. The offer will be supplemented by 20 lockable bike boxes at two locations - directly at the station and on the loading road.
The train station as a modern transportation hub
With the expansion, we are specifically strengthening the station as a multimodal transport hub. The aim is to make the transition between bike and train even more attractive and convenient. Commuters and schoolchildren in particular will benefit from the new parking facilities.
"More and more people are combining cycling and rail on their daily commute. We are consciously responding to this," emphasizes Mayor Dr. Dominik Pichler. "With the expansion of the Bike+Ride facility, we are creating safe, practical services that make everyday life easier and at the same time contribute to sustainable mobility."
Free parking and secure bike boxes
The use of our Bike+Ride facility remains free of charge. The new bike boxes offer a weather-protected and particularly secure parking facility and can be booked online via the 'DeinRadschloss' platform.
Our existing bike station in the station building will be retained and will complement the local offer.
Subsidies ensure implementation
The total cost of the project is around 300,000 euros. 89 percent will be covered by funding from the Rhine-Ruhr Transport Association (VRR) as part of the program for investment measures in local public transport. Completion is planned by the end of the first quarter of 2026.
With the expansion, we are sending a clear signal for modern, networked and environmentally friendly mobility - directly at the station and for everyone who uses it every day.
