Climate Report 2025

At the meeting of the Climate, Environment and Facility Management Committee on September 16, 2025, Climate Protection Manager Maike Böhm presented the Climate Report 2025. This summarizes the climate protection measures implemented and the initiatives planned for the future. The report is part of climate protection monitoring, the aim of which is to review and transparently present the effectiveness of climate protection measures.

Due to the current budget situation and the associated limited budget availability, the focus in 2025 was particularly on developments within the city administration and public relations work.

A central topic of the report is municipal heat planning, a strategic roadmap for the future sustainable and economical heat supply in Kevelaer. Now that the heat planning has been completed, the next step is concrete implementation.

The city administration is working intensively on anchoring climate protection and adaptation in urban planning at an early stage in order to promote sustainable urban development. The impact of municipal projects on the climate is examined by means of climate relevance assessments . Discussions are currently underway as to whether the results of these assessments should be integrated into the draft resolutions for council decisions.

For private households, the energy advice service remains in place, supplemented by the ALTBAUNEU information portal, which offers assistance with the energy-efficient refurbishment of residential buildings.

In the area of public relations, the Westenergie Climate Protection Prize will be awarded for the fifth time. In addition, the NRW information tour of the consumer advice center will take place, stopping in Kevelaer on 30 September, and the Kleve district climate weeks are planned for the period from 27 October to 9 November 2025. Cooperation with schools in Kevelaer is also being expanded to raise awareness of climate protection.

The DialogPunkt Kevelaer is planned for 2026 in collaboration with the TransRegINT project at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences. This series of events will focus on topics for a sustainable and liveable future.

The pilgrimage town of Kevelaer remains actively committed to climate protection and will continue to take innovative measures in the future to improve the quality of life for all citizens.
