The district of Kleve hosted the third "Civil Protection Security Conference" in the district hall. District Administrator Christoph Gerwers and Jürgen Baetzen, Head of the Rescue Service and Civil Protection Department, discussed the topic of "Civil Defence" with over 40 representatives from other authorities and organizations. This topic is currently occupying the federal, state and district governments in various areas. From 2026, this will also become an issue for local authorities. For this reason, the mayors of the 16 towns and municipalities in the district and their respective colleagues were invited alongside representatives from the German Armed Forces, the Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance, the police and aid organizations. "It was important for us to inform all stakeholders about the global political situation and upcoming tasks for all authorities," said District Administrator Christoph Gerwers. "This meeting was also used by the newly elected mayors in particular to get to know each other and exchange ideas."
