Farewell to Dave Welling, Head of Department for Urban Development and Building Regulations

The pilgrimage town of Kevelaer is bidding farewell to its esteemed head of urban development and building regulations. Dave Welling will leave Kevelaer on June 30, 2025 and move to his home town of Bocholt, where he will take on the important role of Head of Building.

Since joining the city administration of Kevelaer at the beginning of 2022, Mr. Welling has made a significant contribution to the further development and implementation of numerous construction projects. With his in-depth training as a spatial planner (TU Dortmund University) and his extensive professional experience - including in Isselburg, Kalkar and Ibbenbüren - he has brought a breath of fresh air to urban development.

His professional expertise and commitment have not only sustainably improved the pilgrimage town of Kevelaer, but also the quality of life of its citizens. His involvement in the renewal of the town center, in particular the redesign of Peter-Plümpe-Platz, deserves special mention. He has also provided numerous other impulses for urban development.

Another central component of his work was the promotion of sustainable mobility and climate protection. Mr. Welling has been involved in the planning and implementation of transport concepts that support environmentally friendly mobility solutions. At the same time, he has promoted concepts for sustainable urban development that focus on climate protection. In this way, he has helped to make the pilgrimage town of Kevelaer fit for the future.

Mayor Dr. Dominik Pichler paid tribute to his achievements: "We would like to thank Dave Welling for his valuable work and commitment to our city. His commitment has driven many projects forward and will be fondly remembered by the administration and citizens. For Kevelaer, but also personally, I very much regret the departure of Dave Welling. We are not only losing a professionally competent head of department and a good and reliable colleague, but also a great person," said Mayor Dr. Pichler.

Dave Welling himself emphasizes: "I'm leaving with a smile and a tear in my eye, as I've always felt at home in Kevelaer. But I won't miss the driving times and I'm looking forward to the new tasks and the unique opportunity to help shape my home town."

The pilgrimage town of Kevelaer wishes Mr. Welling all the best and every success in his new role as head of the building department in Bocholt.

Dave Welling's successor has been appointed: From July 1, 2025, Lukas Arntz will take over as Head of Department 2 - Urban Development and Building Regulations. This will ensure a smooth transition.
