For three weeks, the pilgrimage town of Kevelaer once again pedalled hard - with great success: 487 participants in 39 teams covered over 101,720 kilometers together in this year's city cycling event. This corresponds to around 17 tons of CO₂ saved compared to driving a car.
Now, two weeks later, we say: Thank you to everyone who cycled along - and welcome to the next round of our mobility turnaround! "I am very pleased about the strong participation and the joint commitment to more sustainable mobility in Kevelaer. It shows that we are ready for change: We are ready for change - and we are tackling this together," says Mayor Dr. Dominik Pichler.
Because for us, city cycling is not a one-off event, but a starting point:
- We are using the energy and commitment from the competition to continue working on better conditions for cyclists and pedestrians.
- Our new mobility manager Heinz-Theo Angenvoort is already on it - with fresh ideas and open ears for what moves you. "The city bike ride was a great signal: many people in Kevelaer are ready to be mobile in an environmentally friendly way - now it's all about creating the right routes for this."
Award ceremony at the Lower Rhine Cycling Experience Day
As part of the Lower Rhine Cycling Experience Day, the most committed participants in City Cycling 2025 were honored today in several categories - with impressive achievements:
- In the "Most active cyclist" category, Lukasz Lisowski took first place with 2,441 km - he started his cycling vacation straight from the competition! He was followed by Armin Zocher (2,042 km) and Gerhard Paplinski (1,532 km), who, together with his wife Christina, clocked up an impressive number of kilometers.
- With 1,438 km per person, Team Christina defended the title of "Team with the most active cyclists", followed by the Wadentest Foundation (992 km/person),
- The most active cycling team overall was the "Walther Faltbox Group", which covered a total of 9,188 km with 36 team members.
- For the first time, the SCHOOL CYCLING event was also judged separately: The Kardinal-van-Galen-Gymnasium won gold with an impressive 12,998 km, ahead of the St. Antonius-Grundschule (6,542 km) and the Gesamtschule Kevelaer (3,953 km).
All the winners received KevelaerCards as recognition - and above all lots of applause!
