Information on heat protection at the weekly market

On Friday, July 4, 2025, the pilgrimage town of Kevelaer cordially invites all citizens to an information stand at the weekly market. From 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., interested parties will have the opportunity to obtain comprehensive information on the topic of heat protection, ask questions and actively participate in a hands-on activity.

Summer not only brings sunshine, but also health challenges. Older people, children, people with pre-existing conditions and those who work outdoors are particularly at risk from the heat. It is therefore important to inform yourself in good time and to act correctly - both in everyday life and in an emergency.

What can you expect at the stand?

At the information stand at the weekly market, experts from Kevelaer town council and two employees from the Kleve district health department will be available for a direct exchange. We would like to discuss key issues with you, such as

  • How do I recognize the signs of heatstroke - in myself and in others?
  • How much should you drink on hot days and what is important when it comes to nutrition?
  • Which clothing provides the best protection against overheating?
  • How can I support particularly vulnerable relatives?

In addition to these practical tips for everyday life, you will receive free information material, including the brochure "Heat etiquette" from the Federal Environment Agency, which has been supplemented by the pilgrimage town of Kevelaer with regional tips.

Take part: Your "cool places" on the city map

As an interactive element, a city map invites you to participate: Where do you feel particularly comfortable in Kevelaer on hot days? Whether it's a shady park, a cool inner courtyard or a pleasant café - enter your personal "cool places" and help to develop a common image of heat-resilient places in Kevelaer. This participatory campaign is part of the city's climate adaptation strategy and provides important information for future planning.

Why is heat protection so important?

Climate change has long been making itself felt in Kevelaer - with more hot days, longer dry spells and more extreme weather conditions. This makes it all the more important that we stand together as an urban society, share knowledge and take responsibility together. Because a conscious approach to heat can save lives - in the truest sense of the word.
